Hospitality — Love Language

Every person and situation we encounter in our life always has a reason. If we are mindful enough, we can surely learn or unlearn something from it. One such thing I learned from my in-law’s home is Hospitality (In Tamil virunthombal, some words carry its feeling if it is spelled in Tamil, have you ever realized it 😀).

Being a girl from a family with moderate hospitality values, every hospitality gesture at in-law’s place, even within their own family members, seems awkward and over-action. I was forced to follow their hospitality style, and I did it for namesake. Over time, my fake hospitality started to dissolve while seeing the happiness at receiving end.

As Gary Chapman said act of service is one of the love languages which we can share with our beloved peoples. Once I realized Hospitality is a form of love language, I started doing it wholeheartedly. I came across a short video about a family who runs a hotel successfully in their area. In that video, the owner stated, "We ask every customer to have some more food which normally won’t happen in any hotels because we treat every customer as part of our family." This statement helped me to understand that Hospitality should start from Home. How often we ask our mother whether they had their food or not before we sit in front of our plate? I never asked such things till a few months back.

Now slowly, I have started to include Hospitality within the family as far as I can with consciousness. It seems hard and too much in the initial days; even I felt like giving it up sometimes, but I strongly holding this new habit because I wish my son to learn this love language by seeing me serving others without any expectations. If you feel like learning this love language, don’t wait; start sharing your love right now.

P.S. Hope Virunthombal part from Thirukkural may serve as a guiding light in this journey, do give a read.
